OCTC Names Room for Dart Foundation

Owensboro, KY (09/10/2018) — Owensboro Community and Technical College (OCTC) and the OCTC Foundation, Inc. are honoring the Dart Foundation at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 14 in the Industry Innovation Center (IIC). The event is held in appreciation of a generous grant award of $96,120 that allowed the college to purchase three educational robots. In honor of this donation, OCTC will name Room 108 in the college's new IIC, where the robots are housed, after the Dart Foundation.

Mike Rodgers, Executive Director of the OCTC Foundation, commented, "We are very appreciative of the Dart Foundation and the impact the new equipment will have on student learning and success."

The robots will enhance OCTC's Advanced Manufacturing Technology (AMT) curriculum so that students will have increased awareness and understanding of the principles and operation of how real industrial robots are used in modern manufacturing settings. Students will gain hands-on experiences and learn effective use of modern robotic manufacturing systems as found in today's manufacturing facilities.

"The Dart Foundation is pleased to support this project," said Emily L. Matthews, Dart Foundation Manager. "Providing students with state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment helps them establish a successful career path in a field that has a tremendous need for qualified, well-trained individuals."

The mission of the Dart Foundation is to advance and encourage youth education, primarily in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The Dart Foundation also supports projects that strengthen and improve the quality of life in numerous identified communities.
