GO FAME Family Night
Thursday, February 23, 2023, at OCTC's Downtown Campus Innovation Lab
Owensboro, KY (02/09/2023) — Owensboro Community & Technical College's (OCTC) Greater Owensboro Chapter of the Kentucky Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education (GO FAME) is hosting a parent's night event open to the public on Thursday, February 23, 2023. This event is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in Owensboro Community and Technical College's Downtown Campus Innovation Lab (room 17) located at 1501 Frederica Street. All interested students, family members, and community members are invited to attend.
Manufacturing employers from the GO FAME Chapter will participate in Parent's Night and discuss manufacturing career opportunities and the benefits of program participation, which include earning a higher-wage career and a college degree with little or no debt. In addition, OCTC staff will be available to assist and answer questions related to the GO FAME program application, college enrollment requirements, and federal financial aid applications.
GO FAME is based on the nationally noted Toyota Advanced Manufacturing Technician (AMT) program. This "work and learn" model allows participating students to earn an industry-recognized, multi-craft technician degree over five semesters, in about eighteen months. GO FAME was established in 2015 and has graduated 103 students.
Interested GO FAME applicants must be high school graduates (or equivalency) and be willing to participate in the program's 40-hour-per-week, apprenticeship-style format. Students attend college two days per week while working three days per week at their sponsoring employer. The 18-month program allows participating students to earn an industry-recognized, multi-craft technician degree while gaining valuable experience working in a manufacturing environment. Two program options are offered including an Advanced Manufacturing track and a Computerized Manufacturing and Machining track.
GO FAME employers sponsor students in various ways that will be discussed during the event. Students also earn an hourly wage for time on the job. In addition, the GO FAME program qualifies for the KY Work Ready Scholarship, which covers up to 100% of tuition and mandatory fees for eligible students. Upon successfully completing the program, GO FAME students earn an Advanced Manufacturing Technician, Associate in Applied Science Degree or a Computerized Manufacturing and Machining, Associate in Applied Science Degree from OCTC.
GO FAME is currently accepting applications for a new cohort to begin classes in August 2023. Interested applicants should complete the GO FAME application at https://edc.owensboro.com/go-fame-application/ located on the Greater Owensboro Economic Development website.
GO FAME is a selective admissions program. Applicants must have earned a high school diploma or GED prior to August 2023. GO FAME employer sponsors will interview applicants and select the participants for the cohort.
