OCTC Accepting nursing program applications for January 2022

Deadline Sept. 1, 2021

Owensboro, KY (07/20/2021) — Owensboro Community & Technical College's (OCTC) Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program is currently accepting applications for students that will begin the program in January 2022. The ADN program prepares graduates to sit for the NCLEX-RN examination enabling the graduate to become a Registered Nurse (RN). The deadline for applications is September 1, 2021 and approximately 50 students will be chosen for the next class, based on a revised selective admissions process.

"This is the first time in several years that we are adding an additional cohort and starting a group in January. This decision is based on regional need and our capacity to place the students in clinical settings," stated Dr. Stacy Edds-Ellis, dean of professional and technical studies.

Dr. Lori Donahoo, nursing program coordinator added, "We revised some of the selection criteria based on feedback from students so they can better understand the rankings and criteria. We hope this will encourage some to re-apply for this additional cohort."

Nursing is one of the most essential careers in our region. If you are interested in helping people and are adept at science, nursing is a great option. Nursing offers countless employment opportunities in a variety of healthcare settings.

For students who are Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) and are interested in pursuing an ADN, OCTC offers the LPN to ADN program option. OCTC's ADN program is accredited by the National League of Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA), and is approved by the Kentucky Board of Nursing (KBN).
