OCTC Cancelling Classes on March 16-17

Moving to remote/alternative delivery through April 5

Owensboro, KY (03/13/2020) — Owensboro Community & Technical College (OCTC) is committed to maintaining the health and well-being of our students and employees. As a precautionary response to the COVID-19 crisis OCTC is cancelling classes on Monday and Tuesday, March 16-17 to allow faculty time to prepare for remote/alternative delivery of instruction, which is scheduled for the March 18-April 5 time period. This time frame aligns with our regional partners and will be evaluated as the situation progresses.

Faculty and staff will report to work as normal providing they have no symptoms and encouraged to implement social distancing as recommended by the CDC.

OCTC is committed to providing a quality education and small group meetings may be held as alternatives for those in technical programs unable to accommodate all instruction remotely/alternatively during the March 18-April 5 time period. All on campus interactions will utilize social distancing.

Social distancing means remaining out of congregate settings, avoiding mass gatherings, and maintaining distance (approximately 6 feet or 2 meters) from others when possible. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/php/risk-assessment.html

All college-sponsored events are cancelled through April 5 and college-sponsored student travel is suspended until further notice.

Students are encouraged to check their KCTCS student e-mail and Blackboard for course updates from instructors. Updates will also be posted at Owensboro.kctcs.edu and shared via social media.

In the meantime, OCTC is following CDC guidelines and will continue additional daily cleaning. These protocols include more frequent cleaning and disinfecting of classrooms, restrooms, student centers and other places where students and the public gather.
