OCTC Commencement Ceremonies

May 7-8, 2024

Owensboro, KY (05/02/2024) — Owensboro Community & Technical College (OCTC) will hold its Commencement Ceremonies at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7, and Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at the RiverPark Center at 101 Daviess Street in Owensboro. The college will award 956 credentials to 514 graduates over the two-day event.

The college will recognize the OCTC students selected for the KCTCS All-Academic Team, a statewide honor based on academic excellence. The 2024 KCTCS All-Academic Team members are Ashley Wagner and Carlee Hanger.

"We are looking forward to celebrating this year and are so very fortunate to have so many graduates that want to participate that we have to hold it over two nights," added Dr. Scott Williams, OCTC president.

Vice President of Student Affairs, Dr. Ashleigh Crowe, commented, "Hosting the graduates over two nights allows us to let the students bring as many family members as they like and lets us keep the event at RiverPark, which we feel is the best location for such a prestigious event."

Ashley Wagner, a Nursing program candidate for graduation, will deliver the student address on Tuesday. Wagner was also selected as a member of the KCTCS All-Academic Team, served as the Vice President for Honors in OCTC's Phi Theta Kappa honors chapter, and served as an officer in the IV League nursing club.

The special music for Tuesday will be "Saints Bound for Heaven," arranged by Alice Parker and Robert Shaw, performed by OCTC's Chorus Ensemble under the direction of Dr. Connie Ford.

The student speaker for Wednesday will be Preyas Patel, an Early College student from Daviess County High School; he is a graduation candidate earning both an Associate in Arts and an Associate in Science degree. Patel has served as President of OCTC's Phi Theta Kappa honors chapter for the past two years.

The special music for Wednesday will feature the Coordinator for OCTC's Capital Bluegrass and Traditional Music playing an original composition, "Pine Ridge Road," on the mandolin.

Tuesday evening is scheduled for students earning certificates, diplomas, and associate in applied science degrees. Wednesday evening is slated for Associate in Arts, Associate in Fine Arts, Associate in Science, and Veterinary Technology graduates. Students who cannot attend on the scheduled evening may attend the event on the alternate day.

Graduates of both ceremonies are invited to participate in a rehearsal held at 3:30 p.m. in the RiverPark Center on Monday, May 6.
