OCTC Common Read Selection for Spring 2018
The Next Time You See Me by KY Native, Holly Goddard Jones
Owensboro, KY (01/08/2018) — The Owensboro Community and Technical College (OCTC) Common Reading for the spring 2018 semester will be the, The Next Time You See Me (Touchstone 2013), a novel by Kentucky native, Holly Goddard Jones. The author will be at OCTC on Thursday, April 19 at 12:30 p.m. for a reading and book signing in Blandford Lecture Hall, located in the Humanities building on the main campus at 4800 New Hartford Road.
The Next Time You See Me is Jones' debut novel set in a small Kentucky town, with mentions of Owensboro and Western Kentucky locations. Themes include self-worth, familial relationships, and discrimination. The story follows the ripple effects of one woman's disappearance. Topics and themes that will be covered as part of the semester long events will include bullying, harassment, and forensics search and rescue.
The author's newest novel is The Salt Line (G.P. Putnam's Sons, 2017), and she also penned Girl Trouble, a collection of short stories. Her work has appeared in The Best American Mystery Stories, New Stories from the South, Tin House magazine, and elsewhere. She was a recipient of The Fellowship of Southern Writers' Hillsdale Prize for Excellence in Fiction and of a Rona Jaffe Foundation Writers' Award. Jones earned her M.F.A. from Ohio State University and a B.A. from the University of Kentucky. She teaches creative writing at UNC Greensboro and lives in Greensboro, North Carolina.
