OCTC Foundation Participating in Giving Tuesday
Owensboro, KY (11/25/2020) — Owensboro Community and Technical College (OCTC) Foundation, Inc. has joined #GivingTuesday, participating with millions around the world in the global generosity movement on December 1, 2020. Owensboro Community and Technical College Foundation's, The Power of OCTC, Annual Campaign allows donors to support their cause of choice whether it be scholarships, emergency student loan funds, faculty and staff professional development, or unrestricted funds to be used where needed most. The Power of OCTC: Opportunity, Community, Transformation, and Careers allows you to ensure student success. Without the generosity of partners like you, this would not be possible. Occurring this year on December 1, #GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday. #GivingTuesday kicks off the holiday giving season, unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and their world. GivingTuesday will kick off the generosity season this year by inspiring people to give back that day and throughout the year.
OCTC is dedicated to providing access to a quality education and ensuring students successfully reach their educational goals. An OCTC Scholarship Recipient shared how donor generosity allowed her to follow her dreams, "Having an opportunity like this is a big path for me because it gives me hope. It makes me feel that dreams can come true no matter how difficult things can be. This has helped me have the motivation to get a degree and work towards a better future. " All gifts, no matter the size, make a difference in the lives of OCTC students and we greatly appreciate the generosity of our OCTC friends, faculty, staff, students, and alumni. We will be posting updates and giving links on the OCTC Facebook and Twitter pages and hope you will join us by not only contributing but sharing with your friends.
GivingTuesday was launched in 2012 as a simple idea: to create a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past eight years, this idea has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.
People demonstrate generosity in many ways on GivingTuesday. Whether it's helping a neighbor or stranger out, showing up for an issue or people we care about, or giving to causes we care about, every act of generosity counts. GivingTuesday has raised billions of dollars for critical causes around the world and gets 21 billion impressions on social media from people and organizations speaking up for the causes that matter to them and encouraging others to get involved.
"GivingTuesday inspires people all around the world to embrace their power to drive progress around the causes they care about, not just on one day but throughout the year." said Asha Curran, GivingTuesday's CEO, and co-founder. "With country and community leaders, millions of organizations, and countless givers of all kinds, GivingTuesday is creating a shared space where we can see the radical implications of a more generous world."
Mike Rodgers, who serves as OCTC's Foundation Director added, "Like most things this year, this can be done virtually. anyone interested in joining the Foundation's #GivingTuesday initiative can visit the OCTC website at https://owensboro.kctcs.edu/giving/; the Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/OwensboroCTC/ , or Twitter at https://twitter.com/OCTC_KCTCS."
