OCTC Grad Puts Skills to the Test

Owensboro, KY (06/23/2020) — Emily Taylor, a recent graduate of Owensboro Community and Technical College's (OCTC) Radiography program, put her healthcare skills to good use in early June. While at a local restaurant, she noticed a fellow diner in distress and unable to breathe. Taylor reacted quickly by performing the Heimlich Maneuver and dislodging the item from the woman's throat. She stayed with her until EMS arrived and transported the woman to the hospital as a precaution.

When asked about the experience Emily replies, "I didn't even think twice, I just ran to her knowing what I needed to do. Thank goodness everything ending up being okay.

Taylor has been accepted into the Chattanooga State Community College Radiation Therapy program where she plans to continue her journey to becoming a radiation therapist.

"I'm so excited to be continuing my education to become a radiation therapist. This has been my goal since the very beginning" added Emily.

Michelle Tudor, OCTC Radiography Faculty added, "This is such a great example of being in the right place, at the right time. Emily is such a sweet soul and a talented radiographer. She will continue to do great things and make the world a better place."

OCTC is currently enrolling for the fall semester. Healthy At OCTC plans are being implemented in preparation for courses that are in-person, online, and classes that are a combination of both. Masks and social distancing are mandatory on campus. Other areas being addressed include a limited number of students per classroom session, designated entries, exits, and pathways in buildings, and staggered start and end times to limit unintentional contact in buildings.
