OCTC Hosting "I ASK" Event for Awareness of Sexual Assault
Thursday, April
Owensboro, KY (04/01/2019) — OCTC's Counseling Center will host an awareness session for students called "I Ask" on Thursday, April 11, 2019 at 11 a.m. The session will feature local speaker Terri Crowe, Victim Advocate from New Beginnings Support Services.
Sexual assault is a serious problem across the U.S. Nearly one in five women in the U.S. have experienced rape or attempted rape at some time in their lives, and one in 67 American men have experienced rape or attempted rape. Prevention and awareness is a shared responsibility for everyone. The goal of the sessions is to empower students to create and promote safe environments, promote and model healthy attitudes and relationships, and assist survivors in finding resources.
New Beginnings has been providing services to the GRADD region since 1978 when is began as a grass roots movement called Citizens Against Rape (CAR). New Beginnings strives to reach each survivor of sexual assault. An important part of our mission is to educate the community about sexual assault and its prevention.
The sessions are part of a Healthy You, Healthy Campusseries and will be held in the Chandler Conference Center (ATC 107) located in the Advanced Technology Center, on OCTC's Main Campus at 4800 New Hartford Road. The events are free and open to the public.
