OCTC Nursing Program Seeking NLN CNEA Accreditation

Owensboro, KY (04/23/2018) — The Owensboro Community & Technical College Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program hosted a successful on-campus visit with the National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA) on April 18-19, 2018.

"This shows the excellent quality of our nursing program and their commitment to continuous quality improvement by taking it to the next level seeking national accreditation. We are very proud of this accomplishment and look forward to completing the accreditation, which brings added value to our students and to the community" added Scott Williams, OCTC President.

The process began back in April 2016, once a college submits an application and is accepted for pre-candidacy status, then the work begins. Programs must submit a detailed report with evidence demonstrating compliance to the five core standards.

Three site evaluators assigned by the NLN CNEA visited OCTC as part of the year long process, moving from pre-accreditation status to full accreditation. OCTC was considered compliant in all five standards with no follow up reporting required to complete accreditation.

Terri Lanham, OCTC Director of Nursing commented, "We are extremely pleased that there is no follow up report required! Initially meeting all five standards is a true testament to our Nursing faculty and how prepared we are to maintain the quality of this program and comply with these national accrediting standards."

The next step in the process is for the NLN CNEA Program Review Committee to review the evaluator's report, August 23-24, 2018 and make recommendations to the NLN CNEA Board of Commissioners who will take final action on the accreditation status of the program, October 18-19, 2018.
