OCTC Offering AI for the Workplace course
Online course runs Oct. 21- Dec. 15
Owensboro, KY (07/25/2024) — Owensboro Community & Technical College (OCTC) is offering a new course focused on artificial intelligence (AI) as part of a pilot project with three other KCTCS colleges. Offered through the Computer & Information Technologies (CIT) program, this second bi-term fall course is called CIT 102: Introduction to AI in the Workplace, and will run October 21through December 15, 2024. The course is a three-credit hour offering and has no pre- or co-requisites. The course is not a requirement for any academic program at this time and is offered as an elective. It was developed with business in mind and will introduce the foundations of AI and explore key concepts that include generative AI, machine learning, and natural language processing. Additional topics will include exploring the impact of AI on industries, practical skills for the digital workforce, efficient use of AI, and the ethical responsibilities for implementing AI.
Calli Young will be the instructor for this online course. She is a graduate of OCTC's CIT program, earning honors as the program's Outstanding Student while completing her Associate in Applied Science degree. She then transferred to Murray State University, earning a Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity and Network Management. Young most recently completed a Master's degree in Engineering and Technology Management from Morehead State University.

We are lucky to have Calli on hand as she is has just completed her master's work and is excited to take on this challenge."
