OCTC Offering Multiple Machine Tool Certificates
Attend Classes 2X Per Week
Owensboro, KY (07/30/2024) — Owensboro Community & Technical College's (OCTC) Computerized Manufacturing and Machining (CMM) program has restructured the CMM program to offer students the opportunity to earn multiple certificates while attending courses just two days per week.
Students can earn a certificate in Exploratory Machining and a Machine Tool Operator 1 certificate by attending classes two days a week beginning this Fall semester. The courses include a Social/Behavioral Science class (Psychology, Sociology, etc. - choose one), Fundamentals of Machine Tool (CMM 114), CNC Programming (CMM 134), and Blueprint Reading (BRX 110 or BRX 120).
"We've seen a positive student response to the programs that are structured for the working adult. This re-formatting of the program allows the student to earn certificates and build upon those to take their skills to the next level" added OCTC President, Dr. Scott Williams.
Students may then opt to remain enrolled in the following Spring 2025 semester and earn a Machine Tool Operator II Certificate by taking Metrology/Control Charts (CMM 118), Applied Machining (CMM 124), and Computer Aided Drafting (CAD 100).
This strategy allows students to work while attending classes and earn multiple certificates to build their skills and academic transcript while gaining real-world experience in a state-of-the-art lab setting. THE CMM program is eligible for Work Ready Kentucky tuition assistance, to see if you qualify visit www.workreadykentucky.com.
If your employer offers a tuition assistance program, OCTC can work with them to set up third-party billing for these courses. Please e-mail octc.businessoffice@kctcs.edu requesting to be billed for the cost of the courses, and that payment will be made directly to the college.
Anyone interested in applying and enrolling for the fall semester can walk in or schedule a personal appointment by calling 270-686-4418 or emailing octc.STARTCenter@kctcs.edu to schedule an online or phone meeting.
