OCTC Offering Robotics Course
Owensboro, KY (12/05/2019) — Owensboro Community & Technical College (OCTC) is offering a new robotics course for the spring semester. Industrial Robotics and Robotic Maintenance which will be taught by faculty member James Hall. The four hour credit course will be offered in a Tuesday/Thursday format from 12:30-3 p.m. The course is designed to introduce the theory of robotics including applications, basic programming, components, safety standards, motions concepts and terminology. The course will also instruct students on troubleshooting, backup, and recovery processes. The students will have the opportunity to develop, set up, and integrate cells into manufacturing systems.
"We are excited to launch opportunities in robotics. With the enthusiasm from students, faculty and industry partners we are already making plans to expand robotics into additional certificate and associate degree options in the future" added Dr. Stacy Edds-Ellis, OCTC Dean of Academic Affairs.
James Hall's most recent field experience prior to coming to OCTC is in engineering and maintenance for Owensboro Specialty Polymers and MPD, Inc. He holds a BS in Engineering Physics, and a Master's in Management of Technology, both from Murray State University.
OCTC President Dr. Scott Williams noted, "We are excited to have James on board and be able to expand our offerings for students. Our regional industry partners utilize robots at an increasing rate, so this will also help current employees skill up in the area of robotics."
There is a course pre-requisite required of IMT 110 and IMT 111, but previous work experience may be applied based on consulting with the instructor. Interested students may reach Hall at james.hall@kctcs.edu or by calling 270-686-4465.
Registration is open now and will continue until classes begin January 13.
