OCTC Partners with OPD and DCSO for Project Badge

Owensboro, KY (09/01/2020) — Owensboro Community & Technical College is proud to announce a new partnership with the Owensboro Police Department (OPD) and the Daviess County Sheriff's Office (DCSO), in conjunction with the Criminal Justice-Law Enforcement program, entitled Project Badge.

The program will allow new recruits of the OPD and the DCSO to participate in training and earn their associate degree simultaneously.

City commissioners approved the municipal order for Project Badge on Tuesday, August 18. In February, the City voted to change the requirements for OPD recruits by allowing them to obtain an associate degree or equivalent after their hire date and during their training period. Changing the officer recruiting requirements allows for an increased applicant pool.

The partnership provides the new recruits an opportunity to earn an Associate in Applied Science Degree in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement. Brock Peterson, the program coordinator at OCTC and a retired officer from OPD added, "This is a great option and should increase not only the pool of applicants but allow more students to reconsider this as a career option, in particular female and underrepresented minorities."

Interested students may apply to OCTC at Owensboro.kctcs.edu learn more about the program by emailing Brock.Peterson@kctcs.edu or calling 270-686-4601.
