OCTC's 35th Annual 5K Run/Walk - In Person and Virtual

Owensboro, KY (10/11/2021) — The Grant G. Talbott III Memorial Run - Owensboro Community and Technical College's (OCTC) 35th annual road race will be held in person and virtually. In person participants will run the 5K on Nov. 6, 2021; virtual participants may choose their own path, and day, to run or walk the 5K from Nov. 4-6, 2021, and log their time online. All proceeds go to support OCTC students.

Race day registration and check-in is 7:30-8:30 a.m. at OCTC's main campus, 4800 New Hartford Road, Owensboro, KY. All preregistered participants will receive a commemorative t-shirt. Shirts are not guaranteed for late registrants. Entry fee is $25, and $10 for current OCTC students.

This 5K race/walk begins at 9 a.m. at Legion Park on East Byers Avenue and continues around Veach Road, ending at OCTC. Please park on campus. A complimentary shuttle will transport participants to the starting line.

There will be door prizes, including a drawing for $250 cash. You must be present to win; ONLY in person participants are eligible for door prizes, drawings, and trophies. Awards and prize drawings will begin immediately following the race. Local participants may pick up their shirts on race day or Friday, Nov. 5, 2021 from 11 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. at OCTC's Main Campus, Administration Building-Office of Resource Development, 4800 New Hartford Road, Owensboro. All participants are encouraged to post photos to social media and use #octc5k.

The race is named in honor of Grant G. "GG" Talbott. Talbott who served as a counselor at OCTC for 10 years after retiring from Owensboro High School. He was a friend and mentor to many during his lifelong commitment to education. Talbott coordinated the road race from 1998-2007. This is one of the longest continuing races in the region.

This year, we also remember our dear friend, Carl Runyon (1951-2021). Carl taught English at OCTC for 35 years and was one of the founders of our 5K. His passion for both education and running will never be forgotten.
