OCTC's AFA Degree Candidate Art Exhibit

Angel Higdon

Owensboro, KY (04/02/2019) — Owensboro Community & Technical College's (OCTC) Angel Higdon has an exhibition of artworks on display in the Dayman Gallery as part of her course study as a May candidate for an Associate in Fine Arts - Visual Art degree. The exhibition opened on April 1 and runs through April 26, 2019. The exhibit includes works completed during her time at OCTC.

Higdon has exhibited her work in the OCTC student art shows and her work has been published in the Skylark Magazine. Higdon has received awards for her artwork in the student exhibitions and her work is included in the college's permanent art collection. In discussing her art Higdon stated, "I am not your typical college student, at 45 I decided it was time to go back to college and pursue my associate in arts degree. I have always been a creative person working in medias ranging from paint to yarn. My sister once said "You can make beautiful things out of bits of nothing." This statement pretty much sums up the way I work and my work itself. I find peace in the process and taking the bits that by themselves most people consider nothing and turning them into art that makes people smile, wonder how I did it or even just think. That is all I want from my work. My favorite medias I have worked with during my time at OCTC have been clay and oil paint."

The Dayman Gallery is located on the 2nd floor of the Learning Resource Center on OCTC's main campus at 4800 New Hartford Road, Owensboro. Dayman Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For more information contact Monty Helm at 270-686-4626, or monty.helm@kctcs.edu.
