OCTC's Ash Presents "Celebrating 100 Years of U.S. - Polish Relations"

Owensboro, KY (10/19/2018) — Owensboro Community & Technical College's (OCTC) Dr. Angela Ash, will conduct a presentation "Celebrating 100 Years of U.S. - Polish Relations" sharing her experiences from traveling as a Fulbright Hayes Scholar on Tuesday, October 23, at 11 a.m. in the Chandler Conference Center, located in the Advanced Technology Center at 4800 New Hartford Road. Ash was selected to participate in the Fulbright Hayes Seminar Abroad program and toured Poland.

Fulbright participants traveled across Poland visiting historical sites as well as fast-growing areas including, Warsaw, Cracow, Wroclaw, and Gdansk. They experienced the richness of the culture and met with Polish scholars. The program encourages the participants to pursue their individual academic interests, develop their respective curriculum projects to bring back to their campuses, and share their broadened knowledge and experiences with students and colleagues in the United States.

Dr. Scott Williams, OCTC President commented, "We are excited to hear about Dr. Ash's experience. Being selected as a Fulbright Scholar is a distinct honor and sharing information like this only furthers more collaboration among faculty and the community ."

The Fulbright international exchange of scholars provides opportunities for selected Western Kentucky University and foreign university professors to teach and conduct research abroad for up to a full academic year. The four-week program will explore the relationship between the United States and Poland and delve into politics, national security, culture, and economics. The participants will have an opportunity to meet experts across different academic fields who will share their knowledge on international relations, specifically concentrating on the United States and Poland.

Ash is an OCTC alumnus, a veteran of the U.S. Navy, teaches in the Department of History and is an Associate Professor. Ash earned her undergraduate degree in history from Brescia University, her master's degree in History from the University of Louisville, and a doctoral degree from Western Kentucky University.

"I was honored to have been selected for this fantastic opportunity and I am excited to share my experiences. This program is a great fit for a history professor and will enhance my perspectives while teaching" added Ash.

Ash also serves Secretary of the Owensboro World Affairs Council, is the faculty advisor for the Hager Scholars program, and has been teaching at OCTC since 2011. The event is free and open to the public.
