OCTC's Davis Selected for ALDI
Owensboro, KY (04/01/2020) — Owensboro Community & Technical College's (OCTC) Sharmy Davis, was selected to participate in the Council on Postsecondary Education's (CPE) prestigious Academic Leadership Development Institute (ALDI). This is the second year for the institute which is a series of professional development sessions designed to prepare a group of 17 minority faculty and staff members for leadership roles in Kentucky higher education.
Dr. Scott Williams, OCTC President added, "This is a great opportunity for Sharmy and for the college in that she can bring ideas and enthusiasm back to our campus and share those with us. It will also provide her with an expanded peer network that we can one day attract to Owensboro."
ALDI is sponsored by the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education and provides a series of highly-interactive sessions and small group seminars led by faculty and administrators from across Kentucky and other states with the goal to create a learning community of early career, underrepresented minority faculty and staff who are on track for professional advancement.
This year's cohort of 17 include six from Kentucky's four-year institutions and 11 from Kentucky Community and Technical College System colleges. Institutional leaders nominated the candidates for the yearlong initiative based on their leadership ability, interest in advancement, and dedication to higher education. Participants cannot have previous administrative experience.
"I was honored to have been selected for this opportunity and look forward to learning more about Kentucky's Postsecondary System and getting to know the rest of the professionals in my cohort," commented Davis.
Sharmy Davis is a Success Coach for OCTC students focusing on Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, and Associate in Fine Arts. She is a graduate of the University of Maryland- Baltimore County, where she obtained a Bachelors of Arts degree in history. Davis earned a Master in Public Administration from Eastern Kentucky University and a Master in Business Administration degree from Midway University. She began her career with OCTC in 2019, and previously worked for the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce.
