OCTC's Duvall Selected as ALDI Participant

Owensboro, KY (03/31/2021) — The Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education (CPE) announced Monday that 19 professionals from across the state have been selected to participate in the Academic Leadership Development Institute (ALDI) this year to prepare for influential roles in higher education. Owensboro Community & Technical College is proud to announce that Courtney Duvall, Senior Admissions Advisor, has been selected for this honor.

Coordinated by the CPE, ALDI provides a series of interactive sessions and small group seminars led by faculty and administrators from across Kentucky and other states. The goal is to create a learning community of early career, underrepresented minority faculty and staff who are on track for professional advancement.

Dr. Scott Williams, OCTC President added, "We are so proud to have another participant representing OCTC in this institute. It is a great opportunity for Courtney to learn more about statewide policy and how we can better serve students."

Duvall is currently pursuing a master's degree in leadership from Western Kentucky University (WKU). Before her current role of Senior Admissions Advisor, she served as a student success coach, and enjoys working with students and seeing them succeed. Duvall began working as a Financial Aid Assistant at OCTC in 2017. She earned her Associate in Arts from OCTC and holds a bachelor's degree in Organizational Leadership from WKU. Prior to joining OCTC's team, Duvall worked as a support team coach at the Wendell Foster Campus and as a caregiver at Comfort Keepers. Duvall is from Owensboro and a graduate of Apollo High School.

"Our participants are already leading transformational efforts, and we are excited to invest in their future," said Travis Powell, vice president and general counsel at CPE. "Equity and inclusion in the campus workforce is fundamental to our goals in higher education, and we want to empower these leaders with as much knowledge and experience possible to drive institutional success."

The CPE established ALDI in 2019 after receiving a $50,000 grant from the Lumina Foundation, which targeted efforts to close outcome gaps in postsecondary education.

This year's group includes seven professionals from Kentucky's four-year institutions and 12 from institutions in the Kentucky Community and Technical College System. They were nominated for the yearlong program based on their leadership ability, interest in advancement and dedication to higher education.
