OCTC's New Dean of Academic Affairs, Arts & Sciences, Dr. Shane Armstrong

Owensboro, KY (08/31/2022) — Owensboro Community & Technical College announces that Dr. Shane Armstrong, a native of Owensboro, has been named the new Dean of Academic Affairs, Arts, and Sciences and began her duties on August 1. She brings a wealth of experience from previous positions including her most recent as the Dean of Student Success, at Kentucky Wesleyan College.

Armstrong earned a Bachelor of Art in English and a Master of art in English Literature from the University of Louisville. She holds a Doctoral degree in Higher Education Leadership from California Lutheran University.

She has held a variety of positions, including Assistant Director of a Student Center, Director of Student Life, Director of Residential Life, Coordinator for International Programs, Athletic Director, Dean of Students, Dean of Student Success, and full-time faculty member. She has developed start-up Freshman Composition and Freshman Seminar programs. Her breadth of experience took her across the country, living in Chicago and in Los Angeles, before bringing her back home to Kentucky.

She and her husband, Jason Harris, reside with their family in Beaver Dam.

When asked what she loves most about her career choice, she replied, "I like building support services and solving problems that help students achieve academic success."

Armstrong's responsibilities will include oversight of all the programs, faculty, and credentials offered in the humanities, physical and social science divisions.

OCTC President Dr. Scott Williams commented, "We are so excited to have Shane on board. Her experiences lend a unique perspective and fit well with our student success focus."
