OCTC's Nursing Program Earns Reaccreditation from NLN Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation

Owensboro, KY (11/25/2024) — Owensboro Community & Technical College (OCTC) is proud to announce that its Nursing (ADN) Program has been awarded continuing accreditation for the next ten years by the National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA). This prestigious reaccreditation, which is valid from March 2024 through March 2034, recognizes OCTC's commitment to delivering a high-quality nursing education that prepares students for success in the dynamic healthcare field.

The CNEA accreditation signifies that OCTC's ADN Program has consistently demonstrated a culture of excellence and a commitment to quality in nursing education. This distinction reflects the program's strong academic standards, the dedication of its faculty, and the success of its graduates in the nursing profession.

OCTC President Dr. Scott Williams commented "We are so proud of this achievement and of our Nursing program for not only successfully obtaining reaccreditation but for the continued expansion of the program and their efforts to maintain their high standards while producing more nursing candidates."

A Team Effort of Excellence

The achievement of continuing accreditation is the result of the collective effort, dedication, and support from many individuals across the OCTC community. Nursing faculty, students, clinical partners, and college colleagues have all played an integral role in ensuring that the ADN program meets-and exceeds-the rigorous standards set by CNEA.

"We are deeply grateful for the dedication and hard work of everyone involved in our nursing program," said Dr. Lori Donahoo, Director of Nursing at OCTC. "This reaccreditation is a testament to the commitment of our outstanding faculty, the enthusiasm of our nursing students, and the valuable partnerships we maintain with clinical sites. Working together we've created an environment that fosters success, professionalism, and compassionate care for our students and the community."

Preparing the Next Generation of Nurses

As part of the college's broader healthcare offerings, the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Program is an essential component of OCTC's commitment to providing healthcare education. Through a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on clinical training, the CNA program equips students with the essential skills to enter the workforce as highly qualified healthcare professionals.

While the CNA program is separate from the ADN program, the continued success and reaccreditation of the ADN program enhance the overall quality of nursing education at OCTC. The college remains dedicated to offering students a comprehensive pathway to pursue nursing careers at every level-from certification to associate degrees and beyond.

Looking Ahead

As OCTC's ADN program celebrates this major milestone, the college continues to focus on expanding opportunities for students to thrive in the healthcare industry. The nursing department remains committed to providing rigorous, evidence-based education while preparing compassionate, competent, and confident nurses to meet the evolving needs of the healthcare system.

OCTC President, Dr. Scott Williams commented, "We are excited about the future and our program's ongoing impact on the community. This accreditation is not just a recognition of their past achievements, but a promise to continue offering an exceptional nursing education for years to come."
