OCTC Speech & Debate Team "Climb the Mountain" at Puget Sound

Owensboro, KY (11/15/2021) — Owensboro Community & Technical College (OCTC) debaters compete and place at the Fall "Climb the Mountain" Online Team Debate Tournament hosted by Puget Sound University, located in Seattle, Washington. In this remote event debaters had the option to compete as an individual or in pairs.

Caleb Rush a Sophomore from Owensboro, paired with Heaven Taylor, a Freshman from Owensboro, compiled a 2-1 record in prelims, advanced to the semi-finals and won the tournament on a 2-1 decision. Rush earned a fourth place speaker award in the Novice Team International Public Debate Association (TIPDA) division.

David Daniel, a Freshman from Owensboro, compiled a 3-0 record in the JV-Senior division of TIPDA. Daniel also earned a third place speaker award in the upper division.

Daniel and Taylor are enrolled at OCTC and at Owensboro High School.
