OCTC Veterinary Technology Program Extends Program Admission Application Deadline

The new deadline is August 1, 2024 for students interested in starting the program during the Fall 2024 semester

Owensboro, KY (06/03/2024) — Owensboro Community and Technical College's (OCTC) Veterinary Technology program has extended its program application deadline to August 1, 2024.

The only 2-year fully accredited veterinary technology program in Kentucky, OCTC's program has garnered immense recognition, attracting students from all corners of Kentucky, Southern Indiana, and even Illinois. The program just celebrated its 10 year anniversary last Fall, graduating its 10th cohort earlier this month.

Upon completion of the program, graduates are prepared to sit for the Veterinary Technician National Exam (VTNE). Areas of study include office and hospital procedures, client relations and communications, anatomy, physiology, parasitology, microbiology, clinical techniques, pharmacology, anesthesiology, surgical and medical nursing, radiology, and clinical pathology training. The Vet Tech program provides valuable real-world clinical and lab experiences to develop the skills needed to become a valued professional in the field.

OCTC Veterinary Technology Program Director, Dr. Laura Boarman, DVM added, "Veterinary technicians are the backbone of our industry, aiding veterinarians in providing quality, compassionate care for our patients. At OCTC it is our mission to produce highly trained technicians who will continue to advance the profession and the level of care provided to the animals in our community. As an educator, it is an honor and a privilege to be apart of that mission."

The Vet Tech program has seen graduates secure positions in diverse settings, including general practices, specialty clinics, the University of Florida, animal shelters, animal rescues, and more! Their successes showcase the comprehensive education and specialization options provided by the program.
