OCTC Volunteers Give Back During KCTCS Week of Service

Owensboro, KY (10/27/2026) — Faculty, staff and students from Owensboro Community & Technical College (OCTC) joined colleagues across the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) in celebrating KCTCS Week of Service through a partnership with Habitat for Humanity Owensboro-Daviess County.

A total of 31 OCTC employees/students volunteered during the week, contributing more than 72 hours of service through construction projects and facility improvement efforts that support Habitat's mission of providing safe, affordable housing for local families. Volunteers participated in on-site construction activities and painting projects at Habitat facilities, demonstrating OCTC's commitment to service and community engagement.

"One of the things that makes OCTC special is the willingness of our employees to give back and serve," said Dr. Scott Williams, Chancellor of OCTC. "Whether we're helping students in the classroom or supporting organizations like Habitat for Humanity in the community, that spirit of service is part of who we are. We were honored to participate in KCTCS Week of Service and contribute our time and energy to a partner that is transforming lives right here in Owensboro."

KCTCS Week of Service was established to encourage employees throughout the system to engage with and support the communities they serve. The initiative reflects the shared commitment of Kentucky's community colleges to strengthening their communities through education and workforce development.

The volunteer effort brought together employees and students from across the college, who served in a variety of roles during the week. Their collective contribution helped advance projects that will benefit local families and further Habitat for Humanity's work of building strength, stability, and self-reliance through homeownership.

"OCTC's mission extends beyond our campuses and classrooms," Sydney Warren, Vice Chancellor for Advancement added. "As a community college, we are uniquely connected to the people and communities we serve. Opportunities like this allow us to build those connections while making a meaningful impact alongside trusted partners."

OCTC extends its appreciation to Habitat for Humanity Owensboro-Daviess County for its partnership and for the opportunity to support its ongoing efforts to create affordable housing opportunities throughout the community.
