Spring 2023 Student Art Awards

Owensboro, KY (05/01/2023) — The Spring 2023 Owensboro Community & Technical College Student Art Awards and Skylark reception occurred on April 28, 2023.

The Skylark is the college's literary magazine featuring written pieces and photos of art created by faculty, staff, and students. The editor of Skylark is English Professor Matt Branham.

The art awards, which included work completed during the semester included, Best in Show to Heather Maas for her wire sculpture, "Yearning"; the first place merit award to Joni Heep for her oil painting, "Thanks for Being Here"; the second place merit went to "View from Foot of Bed," a pastel, by Martha Bratcher; the third place merit award to "Those Who Came Before" a ceramic sculpture, by Erynn Hill.

Purchase awards become part of the college's permanent collection, displayed on OCTC campuses. The first-place purchase award went to Heather Maas for her sculpture, "Angry Uterus"; the second-place purchase award went to Roxy Richards for her mixed media drawing entitled "Self-Titled"; the third-place purchase award went to Rose Richards for her oil on canvas, "Cassie's Thimble."

Grae Greer, adjunct instructor and director for Oak Island Theatre, served as a juror for this year's exhibit.

Greer commented, "This year's variety in the OCTC art show made it very hard to select "winners".
