Greer Named Theatre Arts Coordinator for OCTC

by Bernie Hale

Owensboro, KY (06/28/2023) — Owensboro Community & Technical College (OCTC) is proud to name Grae Greer as the coordinator of and instructor for the theatre arts program. Greer has taught in the program, and led the Oak Island Theatre group, as an adjunct instructor since August of 2021. She earned a Bachelor in Fine Arts from Marshall University in Theatre Performance and Production.

After her professional acting contract ended in New York City, she returned to Owensboro and worked to enhance the arts community in the region. Her courses at OCTC focus on Shakespeare, Technical Theatre, and Acting Techniques. She is deeply passionate about the connection between human development and the arts, as well as breaking the barrier that "imagination is only for kids". Greer founded Bluegrass Community Theatre in 2018, where she has the opportunity to connect, develop, nurture and advocate for theatre people of all ages, at all levels and abilities. She served as the marketing director and resident educator at RiverPark Center, teaching art, costuming, and technical theatre classes for elementary through high school-aged students.

In January, she was nominated by her peers to receive the OCTC President's Award for Adjunct Instruction. Greer's award nomination outlined her vital role in the revival of Oak Island Theatre in the post-COVID campus and noted her energy, enthusiasm, and continued work to advance the program through collaborations with local theatre groups, area high schools, the Bluegrass Children's Theatre, Encore, and the Riverpark Center.

"I am so excited to be able to focus my efforts on growing this program for the college and for the community" commented Greer.

OCTC President, Dr. Scott Williams added, "The arts are integral to a vibrant college atmosphere. I look forward to see how Grae can forge those collaborations across disciplines."

Theatre courses at OCTC can be included as part of the Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, or Associate in Fine Arts degree paths. Courses offered this fall include: Acting I: Fundamentals of Acting, Fundamentals of Production, Production Practicum and Performance Practicum.
