Guided Hike of OCTC's Virginia Miles Nature Center

Owensboro, KY (10/03/2022) — Owensboro Community & Technical College (OCTC), in support of University of Kentucky's Urban Forestry Initiative "Tree Week," will be hosting a Guided Hike of OCTC's Virginia Miles Nature Center. Join Dr. Micah Perkins, Professor of Biology at OCTC, on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. on OCTC's main campus. This hike is merit approved for students and will be open to the community. Participants will first meet at the flagpoles in the center of campus, Dr. Perkins will then guide the group to the nature area.
OCTC is the only community college that has a nature center available for classroom and recreational use. The area is home to numerous types of birds that have been catalogued by the Audubon Society. The center was created during the construction of the main campus and has been maintained by the OCTC staff and Nature Committee since its inception. The area includes a nesting island in the lake which benefits the environment by providing important nesting habitats for various animals and birds.
This event will be held rain or shine and it is recommended to wear appropriate shoes as you will be walking in grass that may reach your ankles.
