OCTC Adult Education to Honor 130 GED Graduates at Annual Celebration

Thursday, July 17 @ 6 p.m.

Owensboro, KY (07/09/2025) — Owensboro Community & Technical College (OCTC) Adult Education will celebrate the achievements of 130 GED graduates during its annual GED Graduation Ceremony on Thursday, July 17, at 6 p.m. in Blandford Hall on OCTC's Main Campus. The celebration honors adult learners who earned their GED during the past academic year. The event is open to the public, with a reception to follow in the Advanced Technology Center (ATC), Room 107.

For many of these graduates, this event marks a powerful milestone-the chance to walk across the stage in cap and gown, cheered on by family and friends, fulfilling a dream they may have missed at their traditional high school graduation. Each graduate will receive a certificate presented by OCTC President, Dr. Scott Williams.

"Adult education at OCTC is one of the most powerful engines of transformation in our region," said Dr. Ryan Hall, Director of Adult Education at OCTC. "Every day, I witness the grit of our students who balance jobs, families, and challenges as they work relentlessly toward their goals. I'm equally inspired by our dedicated team of compassionate, creative professionals who believe in second chances and the strength of our community."

Meeting Community Needs through Comprehensive Programming

This year's graduates reflect the broad reach of OCTC's adult education efforts. Over the past year, 527 students attended GED programming in Daviess and Ohio Counties, while an additional 55 graduates earned their GED while incarcerated at the Daviess County Detention Center, thanks to a strong partnership with Jailer Arthur Maglinger.

"We are proud of these graduates, who seized the opportunity to redeem their time by earning their GED," said Jailer Maglinger. "This accomplishment will not only transform their futures but also positively impact their families who are counting on them after reentry."

Surpassing State Goals for a Fourth Consecutive Year

For the fourth year in a row, OCTC Adult Education has surpassed the performance goals set by Kentucky Adult Education (KYAE), the state's funding and accountability agency for adult education. This year, OCTC enrolled 582 students, significantly exceeding its required target of 508 participants.
