Owensboro, KY (04/25/2025) — Owensboro Community & Technical College (OCTC) is hosting TRADE WARS 2025, a comprehensive skills competition showcasing student talent across multiple technical and professional disciplines. The free event will occur on Friday, April 25, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at OCTC's Main Campus, located at 4800 New Hartford Road. There are 125 students from 11 high schools are registered to participate. The majority of the competitions will be held in the Industry Innovation Center.

The competition features sixteen competitions spanning three major sectors: Manufacturing & Transportation, Healthcare, and Professional Skills. Students can try their hand and experience a range of programs from Air Conditioning Technology and Welding to Radiography and Criminal Justice. Categories include Visual Art, Public Speaking, and technical competitions include Industrial Maintenance, Computerized Manufacturing and Machining, and Electrical Technology.

"TRADE WARS 2025 is a unique opportunity for high school students to demonstrate their skills and "try on" the career for a day. While the Nursing competition is completely full, there is still room in the other competitions, and we want students to take advantage of this opportunity. This event rewards excellence and helps students gain valuable experience that appeals to future employers."

OCTC's Vice President of Advancement, Sydney Warren, added, "We are excited to share that DOMTAR is our presenting sponsor, IBEW is on board as our shirt sponsor, 4 Seasons Heating and Cooling is a Technical program sponsor and River Valley Behavioral Health is a Healthcare programs sponsor and award sponsor. We are hoping that our regional partners will take this opportunity to show their support of both our transfer and career options."

Winning schools will receive commemorative banners, while individual champions will earn career-focused prizes designed to support their professional development. Students may participate in multiple categories, allowing them to showcase their versatility across different disciplines. Homeschool and dual credit students are eligible to participate.
