OCTC Names Davis as Dean of Student Affairs

by Bernie Hale

Owensboro, KY (07/20/2023) — After a national search, Sharmy Davis has been named the new Dean of Student Affairs for Owensboro Community & Technical College (OCTC).

Davis was most recently the Director of Cultural Diversity at OCTC and, prior to that, held a Success Coach position. The current dean position was vacated when Dr. Ashleigh Crowe was named as Vice President of Student Affairs.

She is a graduate of the University of Maryland- Baltimore County, where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in history. Davis earned a Master in Public Administration from Eastern Kentucky University and a Master in Business Administration degree from Midway University.

Davis is currently working on completing the doctoral program in Educational Leadership at the University of Kentucky. She began her career with OCTC in 2019 and previously worked for the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce.

Dr. Scott Williams, OCTC President, added, "Sharmy has a proven record of success here, and we are very excited to have her serving in this role."

The position will provide leadership for the Pathfinder Den, the Office of Cultural Diversity, and the Experiential Learning Center and will oversee the Pathfinder Pantry and various advising, transfer, and retention initiatives.

"I look forward to working with Sharmy in this new capacity. While changes in leadership can be daunting, this transition will be seamless. It gives us an opportunity to re-examine all our processes to ensure our students have a great experience," commented Dr. Crowe

Davis was instrumental in developing the ACE mentoring program, a partnership with the Owensboro Black Expo that provides high school students with college and career information and experiences.
