OCTC offering sterile processing prep course for national certification
April 15-June 3, 2021
Owensboro, KY (02/25/2021) — Owensboro Community and Technical College (OCTC) is launching a prep course for healthcare workers interested in seeking the Certified Registered Central Service Technicians (CRCST) national certification. CRCSTs are integral members of a healthcare team who perform a crucial role in eliminating infections and maintaining surgical instruments and devices to ensure patient safety. CRCST certification can lead to wage gain and career advancement within many healthcare facilities.
OCTC's Sterile Processing National Certification Prep Course prepares individuals to take the premier International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) examination required for the CRCST certification.
"This is an exceptional opportunity for our workforce since demand for these careers are projected to grow through 2026 due to the increased demand for medical exams, tests, and procedures (per the US Bureau of Labor Statistics)," says Cindy Fiorella, OCTC's vice-president of workforce and economic development.
This innovative, eight-week course is a convenient and quick option for those pursuing career advancement with a national certification. Participants will benefit from virtual instructor-led sessions with an industry expert combined with engaging web-based learning. The course will meet virtually on Thursday evenings from 5:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. CST/6:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. EST beginning Thursday, April 15 and running through Thursday, June 3, 2021.
OCTC's sterile processing national certification prep course focuses on real-world examples and processes. While this course is suitable for those with limited experience, it is not considered an entry-level course. A basic understanding of sterile processing is needed for successful certification exam preparation.
The cost of OCTC's sterile processing national certification prep course includes instruction, books, and online learning access for a total of $1,435 per person. For group registrations, up to 50% of costs may be covered for eligible Kentucky companies through KCTCS TRAINS funding.
