OCTC's AMTEC Simulator Now at OCTC and ECTC

by Bernie Hale

Owensboro, KY (08/09/2018) — Owensboro Community & Technical College's (OCTC) Advanced Manufacturing Technical Education Collaborative (AMTEC) has installed Advanced Manufacturing Simulators at Elizabethtown Community & Technical College (ECTC) and at OCTC.

OCTC's Shawn Payne has been using the AMTEC curriculum as part of a capstone course for a couple of years. With the addition of the simulator he will be incorporating more of the AMTEC curriculum to utilize the lab projects that are designed specifically for the trainer.

"Anything that we can do to ensure that students have the necessary technical skills, enhances their employability and makes them more marketable. With the pre and post tests this curriculum provides me with specific data that the students have a grasp on the concepts and skills needed in today's manufacturing environment" commented Payne.

ECTC is launching a new AMTEC pathway for students at their Springfield, KY campus, utilizing the simulator with AMTEC's online curriculum. This innovative package offered through AMTEC, now housed at OCTC, allows instructors to implement a turn-key system that includes curriculum, and labs, with pre and post assessments. The purchase of an AMTEC system simulator includes two days of onsite training for instructors, as well as a FANUC CERT certification for a faculty member.

"The great thing about AMTEC is that it is industry driven. There is simply no better way to ensure that your subject matter is relevant and that the skills you are teaching are applicable. The partnerships drive the subject mattter, which ensures the relevancy to industry" added Dr. Scott Williams, OCTC President.

AMTEC is a national collaborative initiative, housed at OCTC, made up of more than 70 industry and educational partners focused on creating seamless pathways for highly skilled technicians in manufacturing.
