OCTC's Dayman Gallery Exhibits Degree Candidates Works
Rachel Haynes, Amber Jenkins, and Sabrina Ward
Owensboro, KY (11/15/2022) — Owensboro Community & Technical College (OCTC) and the Dayman Gallery present selected artworks of Rachel Haynes, Amber Jenkins, and Sabrina Ward in completion of their degrees.
Rachel Haynes, a candidate for an Associate in Fine Arts degree, explores her interests in cartoon illustration and the art of video games through her artwork. According to Rachel, "Much of my work has bright colors or a cartoon style that resembles what I love to do as a hobby. I create this type of art because I've grown up watching cartoons as well as appreciating the artwork of different types of video games. My goal is to show my audience that making art shouldn't be stressful, and whenever you create a piece; it's important to enjoy the process."
Amber Jenkins, a candidate for an Associate in Arts degree, creates artwork from various interests. "Most of my artwork is either realistic, surreal, or slightly abstract paintings of wildlife, plants, and scenery. Combining a realistic subject or foreground with a contrasting abstract background enhances both parts of the artwork. I create this type of artwork because I am a detailed and controlled person, and the subjects of my paintings are what I would like to see in the world."
Sabrina Ward, is a candidate for an Associate in FIne Arts, she merges her lifelong passion for artmaking with influence by Francisco De Goya, Georgia O'Keefe, and Van Gogh. "The forbidding scenes of Goya influence the expression in my charcoal pieces. O'Keefe's flowers and dreamlike scenes have changed how I perceive backgrounds in my own artwork. Also, the expressive nature of Van Gogh constantly inspires me to let my artwork take over and become what it chooses to become."
This exhibition will be on display at OCTC's Dayman Art Gallery located in the upper level of the Learning Resource Center building on OCTC's Main Campus at 4800 New Hartford Road, Owensboro, until December 1, 2022. On Thursday, December 1, from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. the Dayman Gallery will hold an open reception in honor of the exhibit and the public is invited to attend.
