OCTC Student Selected for Disney College Program

Jessica Gillim

by Bernie Hale

Owensboro, KY (12/06/2018) — Owensboro Community & Technical College (OCTC) student Jessica Gillim, is on track to graduate in December from OCTC with an Associate in Applied Science in Computer and Information Technologies-Programming degree. She has also been selected for the Disney College Program which includes a paid internship and college coursework.

Gillim added, "I'm very excited about this opportunity! It will give me a chance to explore the Disney company from the inside and will allow me to network with many different departments within the multiple assets they own. That's really important to me because I am striving to be a Disney software engineer, so the Disney College Program is a perfect place to start."

The highly selective Disney program is structured to allow the students to gain valuable, on-the-job experience working in Disney parks and resorts, participate in college coursework, and have the opportunity to meet and live with people from all over the country and potentially the world in company-sponsored housing. This unique five- to seven-month program allows participants to network with leaders, take part in personal and career development classes, and build transferable skills such as problem-solving, teamwork, guest service and effective communication.

Gillim is a graduate of Apollo High School and has been a work-study student at OCTC. She also assisted with the Digital Divas project last spring working with College View Middle School students to learn programming. OCTC's Theresa Schmitt led the project and commented, "Jessica is a very smart and talented young lady and she will go far! Her work ethic will serve her well in a program of this caliber. We are very proud of her!"
