OCTC to Offer OSHA 10 Courses: General Industry and Construction Safety Training

Owensboro, KY (03/16/2026) — Owensboro Community & Technical College's (OCTC) Workforce Solutions division will host two upcoming OSHA 10 safety training courses designed to help workers earn their OSHA 10 certification card and strengthen workplace safety awareness.

The trainings will be held at 1501 Frederica Street in Owensboro and will be led by veteran safety professional Mark Dorth.

OSHA 10 - General Industry Safety

Monday - Tuesday | March 30 - 31 | 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

The OSHA 10 General Industry course provides essential training for workers in manufacturing, healthcare, warehousing, and other non-construction environments. Participants will learn to recognize and prevent workplace hazards, with instruction covering:

  • Hazard communication
  • Walking-working surfaces
  • Emergency action plans
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Worker rights and employer responsibilities
  • The course equips employees with practical knowledge to improve safety performance and reduce workplace incidents.

OSHA 10 - Construction Safety

Monday - Tuesday |April 6 - 7 | 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

The OSHA 10 Construction course focuses on safety standards and best practices specific to construction job sites. Participants will gain awareness of common hazards including:

  • Fall protection
  • Electrical safety
  • Scaffolding and ladder safety
  • Struck-by and caught-in/between hazards
  • The training emphasizes hazard identification, safe work procedures, and regulatory compliance to improve jobsite safety

Experienced Instructor

Both courses are led by Mark Dorth, who brings 46 years of experience in occupational safety. Dorth holds associate degrees in Occupational Safety & Health and Fire Science Technology, as well as a bachelor's degree in Adult Psychology from Western Kentucky University.

He is also an American Red Cross instructor certified to teach First Aid, CPR, and AED. His decades of real-world expertise provide participants with practical, applicable safety knowledge they can immediately use on the job.
