OCTC Workforce Solutions Hosts Lunch & Learn on Infrared Imaging/Thermography

Thurs. Nov. 6, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at OCTC's Downtown Campus, 1501 Frederica Street

by Katie Powers

Owensboro, KY (10/13/2025) — Owensboro Community & Technical College (OCTC) Workforce Solutions will host a Lunch & Learn session on Infrared Imaging/Thermography on Thursday, November 6, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The event will take place in the Industrial Innovation Lab at OCTC's Downtow Campus at 1501 Frederica Street, Owensboro, KY 42303.

Beginning January 1, 2023, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 70B standard transitioned from a recommendation to a mandatory requirement, setting higher expectations for safety and reliability across industrial, commercial, and healthcare facilities. One of the most effective-and now required-tools for compliance is thermal imaging (thermography), which allows maintenance professionals to detect hidden electrical and mechanical issues before they become costly or dangerous.

The session will be led by Rick Barnes, a Certified Level 3 Thermographer, licensed electrician, training instructor, consultant, and owner of R-1 Maintenance LLC. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of NFPA 70B standards, the role of insurance audits, and how trained thermographers accurately identify and interpret thermal imaging data. The event will also include hands-on demonstrations in OCTC's Industrial Innovation Lab.

Topics will include:

  • The importance of thermal imaging under NFPA 70B
  • Understanding insurance audits and compliance requirements
  • How to read and interpret thermography reports
  • Certification opportunities for thermographers
  • The potential for reducing insurance costs through compliance

This free, interactive event is designed for industry professionals, maintenance leaders, and facility managers who want to stay ahead of changing standards while improving workplace safety and efficiency. Attendees will also have the opportunity to network with peers and enjoy a complimentary catered lunch.

Space is limited, and registration is required. To reserve your spot, email octc.workforcesolutions@kctcs.edu.
