Toyota donates 3 hybrid vehicles to OCTC's auto program

by Bernie Hale

Owensboro, KY (07/06/2021) — Toyota Motor Manufacturing of Kentucky donated three cars for automotive technology programs to Owensboro Community & Technical College (OCTC).

Types of vehicles donated include a Camry, an Avalon and a Lexus and range from 2018-2019 hybrid models. These vehicles provide OCTC students the opportunity to learn the latest technology in the automotive world. OCTC would not have been able to purchase vehicles as frequently as needed to keep up with technology, so Toyota's donations ensure OCTC students are at the forefront in the automotive field.

OCTC's Dean of Academic Affairs, Dr. Stacy Edds-Ellis offered, "We are thrilled to be able to offer our students the latest technology as hybrid vehicles are becoming more mainstream. This donation will grant our students the access and experience to gain the skills necessary to pursue in demand positions upon graduation."

The automotive technology program provides students with knowledge in troubleshooting, performing preventative maintenance, servicing and repairing automobiles. The program prepares graduates for entry-level service technician jobs in the auto repair industry.

"Toyota has donated cars to OCTC in the past, and we are grateful for their continued support. It truly enhances the program" added Mike Rodgers, OCTC's Chief Institutional Officer.

"We believe it's our responsibility to partner with educators to support career readiness programs that help develop our future workforce," said Kim Ogle, Toyota Kentucky corporate communications manager. "Our goal is help prepare students for future workforce success and expose them to an industry that is a vital component of Kentucky's economy."
