Students attended an OCTC faculty led workshop on Time Management.

In celebration of Constitution Day, students attended a presentation offered by Northern Kentucky University on Friday, September 17th. "Let's Talk Voting: An Hour with Kentucky Secretary of State Michael Adams." Secretary Adams discussed Kentucky's voting laws and how they have changed as a result of COVID 19. NKU asked that Secretary Adams discuss his thoughts on college students and voting, including how to improve access to polls for college students.

Students attended a session with Jane Elliott, internationally known teacher, lecturer, diversity trainer, and recipient of the National Mental Health Association Award for Excellence in Education. Ms. Elliot visited OCTC virtually via Zoom to discuss her mission of exposing "prejudice and bigotry for what it is, an irrational class system based upon purely arbitrary factors." According to her website, Elliott began this journey as a teacher in 1968, "In response to the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. in 1968, Jane Elliott devised the controversial and startling, "Blue Eyes/Brown Eyes Exercise." This, now famous, exercise labels participants as inferior or superior based solely upon the color of their eyes and exposes them to the experience of being a minority. Everyone who is exposed to Jane Elliott's work, be it through a lecture, workshop, or video, is dramatically affected by it."

Students attended a showing of "A Class Divided," sponsored by OCTC's Common Reading program. The film was shown in conjunction with a visit by Jane Elliot, internationally known teacher, lecturer, diversity trainer, and recipient of the National Mental Health Association Award for Excellence in Education.

Attended OCTC's Student Fest Fall '21 event held on OCTC's Main Campus. Students were able to explore different services provided by OCTC, as well as talk with representatives from community organizations that provide resources to OCTC students.

Students attended OCTC's new student orientation - Pathfinder Day - held on the Main Campus. Pathfinder Day features an introduction to the OCTC campuses, campus tours, and a variety of introductions to resources offered to students.

Journaling can help people gain control of their emotions, thus improving their mental health. Students who participate in this workshop will receive a journal.

Lonnie Lyles from Counseling Connections, LLC. presented and discussed ways to reduce stress, natural ways to help with depression, and the different types of therapy offered at OCTC. Mr. Lyles is a LCSW and a LCADC, and earned a Master's in Social Work from Western Kentucky University in 2010.

Students received a general overview of the five most common types of insurance: homeowner, renter, automobile, medical, and life.

Students will learn effective ways to take notes. Additionally, those who attend will receive a Rocketbook notebook.

Holly Davis a Family Outreach Specialist from the Center of Owensboro Davies County presented on ways to self regulate, how to deal with anger/frustrations, and understanding your emotions. This event was presented by the OCTC Counseling Center.

There is a critical shortage of school psychologists in our state and in our nation. Join Savannah Benningfield, a Nationally Certified School Psychologist as she shares about her education and career path as a school psychologist.

Attended the unique, virtual 4-Year College and University Transfer Fair. Representatives from over twelve different universities were on hand to speak to students about transfer opportunities.

Although travel is not an option currently, come with us on a virtual exploration of Yellowstone National Park and Hawaii.

Representatives from Brescia University will be able to answer questions from students interested in transferring to Brescia University in this virtual information session.

Attended the OCTC Program Fair/Open House event featuring the Advanced Manufacturing & Transportation Technologies programs.

Students participated in a survey sponsored by the OCTC Alpha Xi Gamma chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the two-year college honor society. Over the past two years, the Alpha Xi Gamma chapter has been working to increase campus awareness of food insecurity and the need for a campus food pantry. The exercise asked students several questions about food insecurity and required them to watch a brief video. After you see the video, students were asked to provide a 250-word reflection on what they learned.

Students participated in a faculty-led workshop reviewing resource management skills.

Students attended a Zoom meeting/presentation with Kim Michelle Richardson, author of The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek, OCTC's Common Read for the Fall '20 semester.

Our emotions not only affect our mental health but our physical health as well. This workshop discusses the cycles of emotions, the dangers of suppressing emotions, and mindful strategies to regulate emotions.

Students learned the history of creating jack-o'-lanterns. Then they used their creativity to carve their own pumpkins.

Student attended the Daviess County Public Library's virtual discussion with Dacre Stoker on his book Dracul. Dacre is the great-grandnephew of Bram Stoker and wrote his book as a prequel to Dracula.

Having good communication skills is even more important now that many classes are remote. Students will learn effective email communication strategies.

OCTC's Political Science Instructor, Nicole Nacey, discussed the 100th Anniversary of the 19th Ammendment and Antoine-Smith Rouse discussed the importance of voter registration. Students attended the session in honor of the annual Constitution Day celebration.

Students attended OCTC's Pathfinder Day - a new student orientation day held on OCTC's Main Campus. New students were able to find their classes, visit the cyber center, have their student ID made, explore the campus and talk with OCTC representatives.
