Owensboro Community and Technical College

Students attended a presentation by Dr. Micah Perkins regarding wildlife homes and how we can help to preserve them. The presentation also featured a tour of the Virginia Miles Nature Center. This was sponsored by the OCTC Common Reading Committee.

Attended a women's panel discussion titled, "Wise Women, Wise Choices, Wise Voices," hosted by the OCTC WISE Committee. Panelists included Candance Brake, President/CEO of the Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce, Pamela Smith-Wright, Owensboro City Commissioner, Barbara Tipmore, Director of Counseling Services and Title IX Coordinator at OCTC, Naheed S. Murtaza, JD and a faculty member at Brescia University, and Susan Montalvo-Gesser, JD and the Managing Attorney at Kentucky Legal Aid.

Through Early College, students attend classes on campus at OCTC full-time during their junior and senior years of high school. Typically this allows the student to graduate simultaneously with a high school diploma and an associate's degree.

Attended a presentation by former OCTC Professor, Dr. Carol (Kitt) Gallagher, who discussed her book, Brass Images: Medieval Lives. On the Main Campus, April 6, 2016.

Attended a presentation by Reuben Payne (and his service dog Stuart) and Jody McCarty (and his dog Dallas), about Tri-State Honor Dogs. This area group uses rescued shelter dogs to help veterans cope with the physical and mental effects of their service time. On the Main Campus, March 23, 2016.

Attended Victims of Circumstance: A look at law enforcement policy for entering homes where there are dogs present. Presented by Janet Willis. March 3, 2016 on the Main Campus.

Attended the workshop sponsored by WISE and the Counseling Center at OCTC. Speakers included Claud Porter (Daviess County Attorney), Ken Caselden (Lighthouse Counseling Services), Cathy Thomas-Pickerell (Targeted Assessment Program, UK), Vicki Glass (OASIS), Susan Silva (Children's Advocacy Center), and Katina Hayden (Cabinet for Health and Family Services). Attended the OCTC Common Read event presented by Micah Perkins, OCTC Biology faculty member and the Western KY Raptor Center, on the Main Campus, October 5, 2015.

Students attended an event hosted by the OCTC Global Studies Committee in conjunction with Michael Boyd, Professor of Business. The event included a presentation by Madison Silvert, President and CEO of the Owensboro Economic Development Corporation. This event was held at the main campus of OCTC on September 23, 2015, in the Chandler Conference Center. Silvert presented on a wide variety of global companies that are located in the greater Owensboro region and why this area is attractive to industry.

Attended OCTC Common Read event sponsored by the Kentucky Humanities Council, Inc., where Chautauqua player Kevin Hardesty brought the Kentucky legend, Daniel Boone, to life. September 17, 2015 on the OCTC Campus.
