Friday, March 2, 2018 at 1 p.m.
Owensboro, KY (02/19/2018) — Owensboro Community & Technical College will host a ribbon cutting and donors celebration event on Friday, March 2, 2018 at 1p.m for the new Industry Innovation Center. The building was funded through the BuildSmart campaign which began in 2015 and required a $3.5 million local match to acquire the $9 million in agency bonds allocated from the state, before the project could begin. A total of $3,512,400 was pledged toward the project from over
36 businesses, industries, and groups including the City of Owensboro, Daviess County Fiscal Court, the OCTC Board of Directors, the OCTC Foundation Board McLean and Ohio County Fiscal Courts.
The initial project, the Advanced Technology Center (ATC), was only partially funded and that required that it be scaled back into phases. The second phase building, the Industry Innovation Center (IIC) sits adjacent to the ATC on OCTC's main campus at 4800 New Hartford Road.
Dr. Scott Williams, OCTC President commented, "This building is the community's building and is the result of the persistence, drive, and support of our community for workforce development. This is actually the second part of the Advanced Technology Center, which opened in 2007."
The IIC will be home to the Welding program, Heating Ventilating and Air Conditioning program, Electrical Technology courses and Robotics. The new facility will allow the expansion of offerings in all these technical programs. The space vacated by these programs will allow for the expansion in other areas including transportation technologies.
