by Bernie Hale

Owensboro, KY (10/27/2022) — Owensboro Community & Technical College's (OCTC) GO FAME is currently accepting applications for new students to begin classes in August 2023. Interested students should complete the GO FAME application at https://edc.owensboro.com/go-fame-application/ located on the Greater Owensboro Economic Development website. GO FAME information sessions are scheduled for Thursday, November 3, and Thursday, December 1, at 5:30 p.m. in Room 8 of OCTC's Downtown Campus located at 1501 Frederica Street.

"The information sessions are open to the public and interested students and parents are encouraged to attend to learn more about the GO FAME program," said Alicyn Rodgers the new GO FAME Success Coach.

GO FAME is the Greater Owensboro Chapter of KY FAME (Kentucky Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education), an alliance of local manufacturers partnering with OCTC in an apprenticeship-style training program designed to develop a highly skilled workforce. The 18-month program allows students to earn an industry recognized, multi-craft technician degree while gaining valuable experience working in a manufacturing environment. Two program options are offered an Advanced Manufacturing Technician track or a Computerized Manufacturing and Machining track.

OCTC President, Dr. Scott Williams added, "GO FAME continues to be a winning model for employers and with students. Anytime we can help students gain real-world experiences it enhances their future employability. The employers are our partners and can help grow their future workforce by participating."

GO FAME is a selective admissions program. Applicants must have earned a high school diploma or GED prior to entering the program. GO FAME employer sponsors will interview applicants and select the participants for the cohort.

GO FAME is a work and learn program where students work at least three days a week at their sponsoring employer and attend college classes at OCTC two days a week. The GO FAME program allows students to earn an education while incurring little or no debt. The sponsoring employer pays a minimum of 50% of the student's tuition costs and an hourly wage for time on the job. In addition, the GO FAME program qualifies for the KY Work Ready Scholarship, which covers up to 100% tuition and mandatory fees for eligible students. Upon successful completion of the program, GO FAME students earn an Advanced Manufacturing Technician, Associate in Applied Science Degree or a Computerized Manufacturing and Machining, Associate in Applied Science Degree from OCTC.

Active and founding members of the GO FAME Chapter include the following employers: ADM Industries, Inc.; Big Rivers Electric Corporation; Castlen Steel; Century Aluminum; Dart Polymers Inc.; Daicel Safety Systems America; Domtar; Hausner Hard-Chrome Inc.; Holiday World Theme Park; Hollison Technologies; Hunter Douglas; Industrial Mold & Machine Company, Inc.; Ken-tron Manufacturing, Inc.; Kimberly Clark; Metalsa; Miles Enterprises; MPD; National Office Furniture; Omico Plastics; Paramount Tool and Die Inc.; Perdue Farms; Precision Roll Grinders Inc.; Regional Water Resource Agency (RWRA); Specialty Foods Group (SFG); Sun Windows; The Hines Group; Trifecta Steel; and Toyotetsu Mid America, LLC.
