OCTC Exhibit Features Students

Alyson Johnson and Cassandra Voyles AFA Candidates

Owensboro, KY (10/03/2017) — An art exhibition by Owensboro Community & Technical College students Alyson Johnson and Cassandra Voyles is on display in the Dayman Gallery, October 2 - November 17, 2017. Johnson and Voyles are visual art students at Owensboro Community and Technical College and candidates to receive an Associate in Fine Arts degree in Visual Art in December.

Alyson Johnson has had her work featured on the cover of the OCTC Skylark literary and art periodical and has won awards for her artwork in OCTC student exhibitions. Johnson works in a variety of media and artistic styles. She states, "It doesn't matter what you create as long as you have talent, skill, and heart that is reflected in the artwork." Johnson intentions are to continue her academic endeavors towards a career as a graphic designer.

Cassandra Voyles has exhibited in OCTC student art exhibitions and has had her work featured in the Skylark publication. She is a member of the OCTC Art Club. In discussing her style, Voyles states, "Since starting Owensboro Community and Technical College in the art program, I've come to realize my love for Japanese imagery and style. Now, I've noticed, when I begin a new work, whether it be a painting, a drawing, or a new ceramics piece, my mind automatically drifts to Japanese and other Asian influences".

The Dayman Gallery is located on the 2nd floor of the Learning Resource Center on OCTC's main campus at 4800 New Hartford Road. Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For more information on the exhibits or on the art program contact Monty Helm at 270-686-4626 or via e-mail at monty.helm@kctcs.edu.
