OCTC Spring Student Art Awards
Owensboro, KY (05/07/2018) — Owensboro Community and Technical College (OCTC) art students participated in the college's Spring 2018 semester Student Art Exhibition. The culmination of the exhibit is the student awards, including merit and purchase awards.
The first place Merit Award, went to Moneshia Harris, for Feathers. The second place Merit Award, went to Chloe "Link" Hall, for her prism color drawing Chase Me. The third placeMerit Award, went to Angel Higdon, for Mystic Mushrooms.
The firstplace Purchase Award, and Best in Show honors went to Zach Roberts for his drawing entitled Wine. The second-place purchase award went to Hai Soe for his sculpture, Ba O Gi. The third place Purchase Award went to Alli Fogle's drawing, Brooms. The winning purchase award pieces will become a part of OCTC's permanent collection.
The Juror for the exhibit was Justin Cecil. Cecil is an Owensboro Community & Technical College alumnus and was awarded the Efroymson Bridge Year Fellowship from the University of Southern Indiana (USI). The Efroymson Bridge Year Fellowship is a competitive award program for a graduate of USI's Art and Design Department. He earned his Associate in Fine Arts Degree from OCTC in 2015 and transferred to USI earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree in studio arts in 2017. The fellowship includes a stipend for two consecutive semesters to allow him to expand his work, office space to work on his craft, a faculty mentor, and allows him to serve as a teaching assistant. The fellowship concludes with an exhibit of his body of work.
Faculty members Monty Helm, Lou O'Leary, and John Schartung will teach studio classes in painting, drawing, ceramics, and 3D design in the Fall 2018.
