Three Owensboro Community & Technical College (OCTC) employees participated in a statewide KCTCS KOOL Academy: Assistant Professor Jacqueline Siljander in the Veterinary Technology program (KOOL Academy Faculty), Instructor Julie Embry coordinator of the Medical Information Technology and Administrative Office Technology programs (KOOL Academy Faculty), and Training and Professional Development Specialist, Lorraine Sturgeon (KOOL Academy Instructional Expert), attended a week long retreat at Jenny Wiley State Park.   The KOOL Academy is a year-long teaching and learning experience designed to pair faculty with Instructional Experts in order to review, revise, and redesign online courses to meet Blackboard’s Exemplary Course program standards.

TTMA was established in Owensboro, KY in 2001, and is part of Toyotetsu North America. With nearly 750 team members, TTMA supplies several Toyota facilities with welding and stamping operations. Primary products from TTMA are structural components for the Toyota Highlander and Toyota Sienna.  TTMA’s Going Pro signees were Jessica Wimsatt and Nick Clouse, both graduates of the GO FAME program.

Owensboro Community & Technical College student Kiean Washington has been selected to participate in the NASA Community College Aerospace Scholars (NCAS) program June 24-28, 2019 at Kennedy Space Centerin Merritt Island, Florida.    Designed for community college Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) students, the program provides participants with an authentic NASA experience and encourages them to finish a two-year degree or transfer to a four-year university to pursue a NASA-related field or career.    Washington, came back to OCTC through the Tech X program while working as a barista at The Crème. Washington excelled in the Tech X program and discovered he had a passion for physics. Now employed at Castlen Steel, Washington completed the Tech X program and is pursuing his Associate in Science degree. His future plans include transferring to Western Kentucky University to major in Physics.

About Owensboro Community and Technical College

Owensboro Community & Technical College is a public, two-year, open admissions college accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges and is one of the sixteen colleges that make up the Kentucky Community & Technical College System (KCTCS). The college values innovation, is focused on student learning, and is responsive to economic trends.  

Most OCTC students are from the counties of Daviess, Ohio, Hancock and McLean in Kentucky, but many others travel from elsewhere in Kentucky and southern Indiana. 

These Merit pages are used to celebrate the successes of our students and will serve them as an online portfolio of achievements.
