Owensboro Community and Technical College

Completed an online workshop designed to examine what one does well--strengths in priority management. Examined internal and external obstacles to effective priority management and developed strategies to eliminate these obstacles. Fall 2015.

Attended the Western Kentucky University Transfer Day. Met with a WKU advisor and learned about admission to WKU, transfer scholarships, and programs available. On the OCTC Main Campus, October 29, 2015.

Attended a reading by Maurice Manning, author of A Companion for Owls: Being the Commonplace Book of D. Boone Long Hunter, Back Woodsman &c. In Blandford Hall on the Main Campus, October 28, 2015.

Attended a student luncheon with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Colleges, visiting committee to discuss FYE 100 and the OCTC Quality Enhancement Plan. October 21, 2015 on the Main Campus.

Attended the Cornerstone Campus Ministry event, A Talk on Depression, featuring James Edwards and Dr. Joe Yazvac, OCTC Counselor. October 22, 2015 on the Main Campus.

Attended a presentation by Dr. Marko Dumancic, Assistant Professor of Political Science at Western Kentucky University, at WKU-Owensboro's Badgett Conference Center on October 21 at 7:00 pm. Dr. Dumancic has published articles on Soviet cultural history and post-communism in former Yugoslavia. He is currently completing a book on the cultural revolution in the USSR in the 1960s.

Served as volunteer judge for the Highland Elementary 4H Speech contest. October 8, 2015 at Highland Elementary School.

Participated in the Western Kentucky Regional Blood Center drive sponsored by the OCTC Nursing faculty, staff, and students. On the Main Campus, September 29, 2015.

Attended the workshop sponsored by WISE and the Counseling Center at OCTC. Speakers included Claud Porter (Daviess County Attorney), Ken Caselden (Lighthouse Counseling Services), Cathy Thomas-Pickerell (Targeted Assessment Program, UK), Vicki Glass (OASIS), Susan Silva (Children's Advocacy Center), and Katina Hayden (Cabinet for Health and Family Services). On the Main Campus, October 6, 2015.

Attended the OCTC Common Read event presented by Micah Perkins, OCTC Biology faculty member and the Western KY Raptor Center, on the Main Campus, October 5, 2015.

Attended the College & Career Expo, the region's largest education and job fair, at the Owensboro Convention Center on Sunday, September 27, 2015. OCTC and numerous other colleges, universities, and employers shared information on their programs and potential careers.

Attended the 4-Year College and University Transfer Fair sponsored by TRAC Central on the Main Campus, September 29, 2015. Representatives from Campbellsville U, Brescia U, Kentucky Wesleyan College, Lindsey Wilson College, Midway College, Murray State U, U of Evansville, U of Louisville, U of Kentucky, U of Southern Indiana, and Western Kentucky U shared information with students.

Assisted faculty and staff in serving attendees who visited the OCTC booth at the College and Career Expo, the region's largest education and job fair. Held at the Owensboro Convention Center from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 27, 2015.

Attended a presentation by Carmina Rodriguez Villa, author of Mariano's World, at Brescia University's Taylor Lecture Hall on Thursday, September 17, at 7:00 pm. Ms. Rodriguez Villa was born in Cuba and grew up during the time of the Fidel Castro-led revolution and the establishment of a communist state in Cuba. This program is part of Brescia University's "Return to the Arch" Alumni Speaker Series and is co-sponsored by OAWAC and Brescia University.

The Hager Civic Engagement Scholarship is a program dedicated to enriching the student's experience with customized rigor through their major and civic projects. Students are selected based on ACT, GPA, civic involvement and personal interviews.

Students attended an event hosted by the OCTC Global Studies Committee in conjunction with Michael Boyd, Professor of Business. The event included a presentation by Madison Silvert, President and CEO of the Owensboro Economic Development Corporation. This event was held at the main campus of OCTC on September 23, 2015, in the Chandler Conference Center. Silvert presented on a wide variety of global companies that are located in the greater Owensboro region and why this area is attractive to industry.

Attended the OCTC Constitution Day event on campus, presented by Angela Ash, OCTC Assistant Professor of History. September 17, 2015.

Attended OCTC Common Read event sponsored by the Kentucky Humanities Council, Inc., where Chautauqua player Kevin Hardesty brought the Kentucky legend, Daniel Boone, to life. September 17, 2015 on the OCTC Campus.

Attended Student Fest on the Main Campus to learn about community services, campus programs, and clubs and organizations available to OCTC students. August 25 and 26, 2015.

Attended a Cornerstone event about answering the question "What is God's Will for My Major?" - September 17, 2015

Attended the September Coffee House. An outreach of the Brescia University Creative Writing program, this group meets September through April to showcase the original work of the region's creative community.

Provided feedback on our new FYE 100 course. This information will be used to evaluate the effectiveness of FYE 100 over time so the college can improve it for future students.

The Dynamic Leadership Institute (DLI) of WKU-Owensboro is a three phase program designed to teach participants interpersonal skills, leadership dynamics, and career/professional development strategies. The program strives to enhance self- awareness regarding personal strengths and weaknesses; to create a better understanding of leadership and influence; to develop stronger leadership and interpersonal skills; and to prepare participants for entrance into their career path.

Recipients of the S-STEM Scholarship. Selection requirements include GPA and ACT score and a qualifying STEM major.The program includes enrichment activities, networking opportunities, and mentoring that provide students with unique opportunities based on their major.
