Owensboro Community & Technical College is a public, two-year, open admissions college accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges and is one of the sixteen colleges that make up the Kentucky Community & Technical College System (KCTCS). The college values innovation, is focused on student learning, and is responsive to economic trends.  

Most OCTC students are from the counties of Daviess, Ohio, Hancock and McLean in Kentucky, but many others travel from elsewhere in Kentucky and southern Indiana. 

These Merit pages are used to celebrate the successes of our students and will serve them as an online portfolio of achievements.

Priority Management: An Action Plan For Managing Work & Life

Completed an online workshop designed to examine what one does well--strengths in priority management. Examined internal and external obstacles to effective priority management and developed strategies to eliminate these obstacles. Fall 2015.

Russia's Threat to the West: Perception or Reality?

Attended a presentation by Dr. Marko Dumancic, Assistant Professor of Political Science at Western Kentucky University, at WKU-Owensboro's Badgett Conference Center on October 21 at 7:00 pm. Dr. Dumancic has published articles on Soviet cultural history and post-communism in former Yugoslavia. He is currently completing a book on the cultural revolution in the USSR in the 1960s.

Attended the 4-Year College and University Transfer Fair sponsored by TRAC Central on the Main Campus, September 29, 2015. Representatives from Campbellsville U, Brescia U, Kentucky Wesleyan College, Lindsey Wilson College, Midway College, Murray State U, U of Evansville, U of Louisville, U of Kentucky, U of Southern Indiana, and Western Kentucky U shared information with students.

Mariano's World: The Life and Art of Mariano Rodriguez

Attended a presentation by Carmina Rodriguez Villa, author of Mariano's World, at Brescia University's Taylor Lecture Hall on Thursday, September 17, at 7:00 pm. Ms. Rodriguez Villa was born in Cuba and grew up during the time of the Fidel Castro-led revolution and the establishment of a communist state in Cuba. This program is part of Brescia University's "Return to the Arch" Alumni Speaker Series and is co-sponsored by OAWAC and Brescia University.

The Hager Civic Engagement Scholarship is a program dedicated to enriching the student's experience with customized rigor through their major and civic projects. Students are selected based on ACT, GPA, civic involvement and personal interviews.

Global Business and Industry in the Owensboro Area

Students attended an event hosted by the OCTC Global Studies Committee in conjunction with Michael Boyd, Professor of Business. The event included a presentation by Madison Silvert, President and CEO of the Owensboro Economic Development Corporation. This event was held at the main campus of OCTC on September 23, 2015, in the Chandler Conference Center. Silvert presented on a wide variety of global companies that are located in the greater Owensboro region and why this area is attractive to industry.

Dynamic Leadership Institute - Phase I

The Dynamic Leadership Institute (DLI) of WKU-Owensboro is a three phase program designed to teach participants interpersonal skills, leadership dynamics, and career/professional development strategies. The program strives to enhance self- awareness regarding personal strengths and weaknesses; to create a better understanding of leadership and influence; to develop stronger leadership and interpersonal skills; and to prepare participants for entrance into their career path.

OCTC S-STEM SCHOLARSHIP

Recipients of the S-STEM Scholarship. Selection requirements include GPA and ACT score and a qualifying STEM major.The program includes enrichment activities, networking opportunities, and mentoring that provide students with unique opportunities based on their major.
