OCTC's TechX Hosting Student Info Session

Thursday, May 3 @ 5:30 p.m., in ATC 107

by Bernie Hale

Owensboro, KY (04/24/2018) — Do you, or someone you know, need a career boost or want to go in a totally new career direction? Then TechX may be the answer! Owensboro Community & Technical College's TechX initiative is a new multi-craft technologist program that will offer hands-on training in a real-world, industrial environment.

Learn more about this innovative new program by attending a free information session on Thursday, May 3 at 5:30 p.m. in OCTC's Advanced Technology Center located at 4800 New Hartford Road.

TechX will offer hands-on construction, fabrication, fitting, welding, and manufacturing training in a real-world, industrial environment. Classes utilize project-based coursework that allows students to move ahead once a particular skill is mastered. Students will also work, both independently and in teams, on problem-based scenarios directly related to manufacturing processes. This practical approach helps students develop those technical and analytical thinking skills, necessary in most entry-level positions, that contribute to work flow and production output. Students will earn a Gas Welder Certificate, Arc Cutter Certificate, Production Line Welder Certificate, and Forklift Operators Certificate upon completion of the coursework.

Two tracks will be offered to provide flexibility for a variety of non-traditional, time-challenged adults. The daytime option will allow students to attend classes eight hours per day, three days per week for a seven-month period. The evening option will allow students to attend classes four hours per evening, four nights per week, for a nine-month period.

OCTC is currently taking applications for the first two cohorts of 16 students in each daytime and evening session, for a total of 32 available seats in the initial start-up.
