Mary Kinney, coordinator of Academic Affairs, at Owensboro Community and Technical College has been re-elected as a statewide representative of staff for the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS).    Kinney started at OCTC in 2001 as a Discover College mentor, she has held various positions in student and academic affairs. In her current role as Coordinator of Academic Affairs she focuses on retention. Kinney also teaches as an adjunct faculty member for OCTC. She has a Master of Arts in Education from Western Kentucky University (WKU), a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from WKU, and an Associate in Applied Science degree in Human Services from Henderson Community College.

Owensboro Community and Technical College (OCTC) and the OCTC Foundation, Inc. are honoring the Dart Foundation at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 14 in the Industry Innovation Center (IIC).  The event is held in appreciation of a generous grant award of $96,120 that allowed the college to purchase three educational robots. In honor of this donation, OCTC will name Room 108 in the college’s new IIC, where the robots are housed, after the Dart Foundation.

Andrew Blanco has joined the Workforce Solutions team as an Instructional Designer working with OCTC’s AMTEC initiative. Blanco collaborates with subject-matter experts to review, design and develop courses for web-based training that are competency-based, in a self-paced format for online delivery. In addition, he will be responsible for the revision and maintenance of current course modules.     Blanco earned an Associate in Arts degree from OCTC, a Bachelor of Science degree in Systems Management, and is currently pursuing a Master of Science degree in Career and Technical Education from Morehead State University.     Blanco’s prior experience included teaching as an adjunct and serving as an Information Technology Specialist for the Help Desk at OCTC, and prior to that he was the Night Campus Facilitator at Western Kentucky University’s Owensboro campus.

Owensboro Community & Technical College's (OCTC) Emergency Medical Technology (EMT) program graduates have achieved an 87% first time pass rate on the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician's (NREMT) licensure exam. In comparison, the national average for first time pass rates is 70%, incorporating retakes on the exam up to 6 times, increase the pass rate to 81% nationally. Statewide the Kentucky first time pass rate is 65%, and after taking the exam up to 6 times, it increases to a 78% pass rate. In addition to the 87% first time pass rate for the OCTC students increased to a 96% pass rate after taking the exam up to 6 times.

About Owensboro Community and Technical College

Owensboro Community & Technical College is a public, two-year, open admissions college accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges and is one of the sixteen colleges that make up the Kentucky Community & Technical College System (KCTCS). The college values innovation, is focused on student learning, and is responsive to economic trends.  

Most OCTC students are from the counties of Daviess, Ohio, Hancock and McLean in Kentucky, but many others travel from elsewhere in Kentucky and southern Indiana. 

These Merit pages are used to celebrate the successes of our students and will serve them as an online portfolio of achievements.
