OCTC student Presley Lee, received the Noon Optimist Scholarship at a luncheon today honoring four local students from WKU Owensboro, KWC, OCTC, and Brescia.

Students provided service to the OCTC campus through Cornerstone Campus Ministry during the Fall 17 semester.

Students attended a Global Studies presentation by OCTC's Rodney Newton. Rodney discussed his culture he encountered on his recent trip to South Korea and El Salvador.

Students attended a First Year Experience Focus Group to discuss and provide feedback on the First Year Experience (FYE) course for the Fall 17 semester.

Student volunteered to help with the coordination and execution of the 2017 FIRST Lego League Regional Tournament held on OCTC's Main Campus.

The Dynamic Leadership Institute (DLI) of WKU-Owensboro is a three phase program designed to teach participants interpersonal skills, leadership dynamics, and career/professional development strategies. The program strives to enhance self-awareness regarding personal strengths and weaknesses; to create a better understanding of leadership and influence; to develop stronger leadership and interpersonal skills; and to sharpen participants' professional skills. ***Resume Development: Best practices for resume development are covered, including: completion of a resume organizer or professional inventory, choosing the proper resume format, highlighting your strengths in relation to a position description, selection of references, and other technical tips. Networking/Leadership Interview: Participants learn effective strategies for building a professional network, including: the "Why?", "How?", and "Where?" of networking, networking strategies for introverts, utilizing social media as a networking tool, developing an "elevator" pitch, and the art of making introductions. Participants conduct an interview with a community leader for the purpose of practicing their professional skills and building a professional network. Interviewing: Included in this session is an overview of interview preparation and best practices, including: research and preparation, appropriate dress, behaviors that are desired and ones that deter from the interview, the value of interview follow-up. Participants learn how to prepare for one-on-one and panel interviews formats through "hands-on" experience. Professional Growth Plan: Participants utilize assessments and exercises to develop a professional growth plan based on the strengths and weaknesses identified in previous sessions.

Students attended the Owensboro Area World Affairs Council lecture by Marko Dumancic, titled: "The Death of Multiculturalism?" This event was held at Western Kentucky University Owensboro.

Students attended a presentation by OCTC faculty Dr. Timothy Dick and Dr. Court Lewis regarding the constitution and the human right to privacy.

Attended the question/answer forum with Dave Eggers, author of The Circle, the Fall 2017 OCTC Common Reading novel.

Rebecca Simon from Financial Aid will inform participants about the vast number of scholarships available and how to apply for them.

Taking tests can be overwhelming for many people. Lindsey Greer will explain strategies on how to reduce anxiety while developing better test taking skills.

"Real Life" RN Case Scenario with a client diagnosed with anxiety. Nursing actions focused on the Psychosocial Assessment piece, in order to guide the necessary interventions for the client.

"Real Life" exercise to assess a client presenting with clinical manifestations of schizophrenia, and the nursing actions of understanding the correct and therapeutic measure to assist client to de-escalate, and calm.

Attended the Domestic Violence Awareness Workshop co-hosted by WISE and OCTC's Counseling Center. The Daviess County Attorney's Office Domestic Violence Task Force presented this workshop.

"Real Life" clinical scenario with client and clinical manifestations of alcohol withdrawal. Scenario involved therapeutic communication in the nursing interventions and plan of care with client.

Students attended the Owensboro Area World Affairs Council lecture by Anna & Daniel Kuthy, titled: "NATO's Yellow Brick Road." This event was held at Brescia University in Owensboro.
