Students attended an OCTC faculty led workshop on Time Management.

In celebration of Constitution Day, students attended a presentation offered by Northern Kentucky University on Friday, September 17th. "Let's Talk Voting: An Hour with Kentucky Secretary of State Michael Adams." Secretary Adams discussed Kentucky's voting laws and how they have changed as a result of COVID 19. NKU asked that Secretary Adams discuss his thoughts on college students and voting, including how to improve access to polls for college students.

Students attended a session with Jane Elliott, internationally known teacher, lecturer, diversity trainer, and recipient of the National Mental Health Association Award for Excellence in Education. Ms. Elliot visited OCTC virtually via Zoom to discuss her mission of exposing "prejudice and bigotry for what it is, an irrational class system based upon purely arbitrary factors." According to her website, Elliott began this journey as a teacher in 1968, "In response to the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. in 1968, Jane Elliott devised the controversial and startling, "Blue Eyes/Brown Eyes Exercise." This, now famous, exercise labels participants as inferior or superior based solely upon the color of their eyes and exposes them to the experience of being a minority. Everyone who is exposed to Jane Elliott's work, be it through a lecture, workshop, or video, is dramatically affected by it."

Students attended a showing of "A Class Divided," sponsored by OCTC's Common Reading program. The film was shown in conjunction with a visit by Jane Elliot, internationally known teacher, lecturer, diversity trainer, and recipient of the National Mental Health Association Award for Excellence in Education.

Students were introduced to the Experiential Learning Center (ELC) by an ELC Success Coach. Students were introduced to the ELC Team and learned about services offered. Resume building, Internships, Job Shadowing Opportunities and other Career Building steps to future success.

Attended OCTC's Student Fest Fall '21 event held on OCTC's Main Campus. Students were able to explore different services provided by OCTC, as well as talk with representatives from community organizations that provide resources to OCTC students.

Student is participating in the OCTC Community Chorus directed by Dr. Connie Ford, Professor of Music. The chorus consists of community members, students, faculty and staff and was organized in the spring of 1987.

Students attended OCTC's new student orientation - Pathfinder Day - held on the Main Campus. Pathfinder Day features an introduction to the OCTC campuses, campus tours, and a variety of introductions to resources offered to students.

Students attended a virtual workshop to learn best practices and resources that will help them prepare for an interview.

Students attended a virtual workshop to explore different types of job interview formats, learn interview practice techniques, and listen to sample interview questions/answers.

Students attended a virtual workshop to learn how to use the Am I Job Ready platform (which features soft skill assessments, career skills training videos and employee engagement tools) to help them measure and develop the skills that will make them more employable.

Students attended a workshop to learn more about finding banks that fit their personal and financial needs as well as things to consider when planning for their financial future.

Students participated in a workshop geared toward preparing for life after graduation. An ELC Success Coach shared, "Relevant Experience & Applied Learning" (R.E.A.L.) for success transitioning into life as a working professional. Real world survival skills for the graduate!

Journaling can help people gain control of their emotions, thus improving their mental health. Students who participate in this workshop will receive a journal.

The Army National Guard was established on December 13th, 1636, making it the oldest military branch. Made up of citizens, it has a long and unique history. Learn more about the history and functionality of this branch of the military, presented by Staff Sgt. Hannah Crawford.

Students viewed a presentation by an ELC Success Coach giving fundamentals for financial success.

Lonnie Lyles from Counseling Connections, LLC. presented and discussed ways to reduce stress, natural ways to help with depression, and the different types of therapy offered at OCTC. Mr. Lyles is a LCSW and a LCADC, and earned a Master's in Social Work from Western Kentucky University in 2010.

Students received a general overview of the five most common types of insurance: homeowner, renter, automobile, medical, and life.

Holly Davis a Family Outreach Specialist from the Center of Owensboro Davies County presented on ways to self regulate, how to deal with anger/frustrations, and understanding your emotions. This event was presented by the OCTC Counseling Center.

There is a critical shortage of school psychologists in our state and in our nation. Join Savannah Benningfield, a Nationally Certified School Psychologist as she shares about her education and career path as a school psychologist.

An Experiential Learning Center Success Coach led students through an introduction to the Purple Briefcase Career Platform. Students were coached through the set up of their personal profile and given an overview of this multi-faceted tool for career development and success.

Soft skills play a huge part in your success in the workplace. Am I Job Ready? features soft skills assessments, career skills training videos, and employee engagement tools to help you measure and develop the skills that matter most. Students attended this session to learn more about why soft skills matter and check out how to utilize the Am I Job Ready? platform to close the skills gap and become more employable.
